Gerdau is currently seeking a Machine Operator for its facility in Lindon, UT.

Job
Summary:
Perform a variety material handling operations and duties, as assigned to service and assist shearing, bending, receiving, shipping, warehousing and plant maintenance operations. Work involves a wide range of simple and routine to moderately complex duties, frequently working with others and receiving close direction from equipment operators and supervisors to provide prompt attention and assistance as required by shop operations and to minimize disruption to the flow of materials and production delays.

Responsibilities:
Work involves highly repetitive and routine duties designed to provide an introduction to the fabrication process and to learn material handling duties and simple or routine equipment operation. Requires care and constant attention to shop activities to avoid injury to self or others and to provide prompt assistance and service as needed or directed.
Work closely with rebar bending machine operators, shear operators and crane operators and assist in performance of duties as instructed. Participate in on-the-job training opportunities to learn shearing, bending, crane operation and loading operations.
Assist rebar benders to learn bending process and to place, separate, lift and position metal bars for bending operations. Reposition work-pieces for initial and subsequent bends; locate and place dunnage for floor storage, transfer bundled bars to temporary staging area, tie and bundle finished bent bars for loading operations.
Assist shear operators in clearing sheared materials from storage racks or to supply stock length rebar for cutting operations. Receive and position steel bundles on stock shear racks. Break open bundles; shake out steel bars and stage on feed table for shearing operation. Provide shear operator with proper number and size steel bars for cutting operation. Signal crane operator to group and remove unused steel bars, affix ties and identification tags.
Actively participate in on-the-job training program for shear and bending machine, stock crane and loading operations. Perform simple bends and shear operations as required or directed.
Receive training and complete certification program for forklift and pendant crane. Operate crane and forklift, upon successful completion of certification program, and perform material handling duties necessary to supply shear line, empty shear pockets, supply bender operators with cut steel, and to load customer trailers as required or directed.

Additional Duties:
Maintain work area and shop in a clean and orderly fashion.
Assist operators in the performance minor maintenance repairs and preventive maintenance on shearline, bender and material handling equipment. Assist maintenance personnel in completion of major equipment repairs or installation.
Detect and report defective material, improper operation, and unusual conditions to proper supervision. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Follow prescribed safety regulations and practices.

Qualifications include:
High School Diploma or GED Required
Previous construction or heavy manufacturing experience preferred
Stable work history
Proven ability work in a fast paced environment
Must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
Must be able to work Monday through Friday 5:00AM -1:30 PM on a regular basis, with the flexibility to work during training and as business needs require. The ability to work Saturdays is also required.

Must be punctual and eager to work daily.
Basic calculations/computer skills needed.
