Position Summary
The Tooling Design Engineer is responsible for the research, planning, design, and documentation of tools and fixtures used in a production-manufacturing environment. The incumbent will participate on new product development teams as well as supporting existing production areas. The incumbent will provide complete design packages and work directly with the toolmakers during tool construction.
Scope of Position
The Tooling Design Engineer reports to the Tooling Manager and works under general supervision. The position involves a high degree of interface with all departments. Tasks range from simple to complex. Organization, follow-through, and communication skills are important factors in daily administration of this position. The incumbent will use technical judgment while developing and designing tools and fixtures. The incumbent will also participate on cross-functional teams involving members of other departments.
Essential Job Functions
Tool Development
o Researches and develops core technologies required by Precor to sustain or improve its competitive lead.
o Designs, develops, and documents tooling designs that meet the functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and safety requirements of Precor.
o Acquires and applies skills necessary to design, develop, and introduce new tooling, within budget constraints and on schedule.
o Identifies, quantifies, and implements tools, methods, processes, and equipment that improve the quality, reliability, and productivity of the process departments.
o Continuously evaluates tooling designs during development to provide robust and reliable tools.
o Perform various types of testing to gather data for developing functional specifications for tooling designs.
o Provides training to the end user on the operation of tools.
o Conducts tool design reviews as described in PRECOR's standard operating procedure document.
Tooling Design
o Designs weld fixtures for robotic welding cells.
o Designs assembly fixtures and tools for production work cells.
o Designs ergonomic aids as needed.
o Designs custom hydraulic press tools.
o Designs tools that require minimal debugging after release to production.
o Specifies pneumatic, hydraulic, or electrical components and/or controls.
o Uses Solidworks CAD program for all tooling designs.
o Understands Poke-Yoke and uses it on tooling designs as much as is practical.
o Maintains tooling CAD models and keeps documentation up-to-date.
o Creates detailed drawings and work instructions for tooling designs.
o Procures tooling components required for tooling construction.
o Provides user instructions for tooling and fixtures.
Performs other duties as assigned

Experience:
Education and Experience Requirements
Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job, will be considered.
Education
o AA Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering required.
o BS Degree preferred.
Experience
o Minimum of 4 years in tool design using standard CAD programs.
o Experience in the design of weld fixtures, both manual and automatically controlled.
o Experience in the design press tools.
o Experience with industrial electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and controls.
o Experience with Solidworks CAD software for tooling design and documentation.
o Experience with manufacturing processes, including welding, machining, robotics, and assembly.
o Experience with GD&T.
o Experience with DFM/DFA.

Working Environment
o Normal office conditions with frequent work in various areas including, assembly, welding, machine shop, paint, and tooling departments.

o Occasional external customer interface and travel may be required.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
