Job Description :Incumbent serves as the Director of Internal Affairs for the Indiana State Prison. Investigates and monitors reported misconduct by staff, offenders, and others associated with the facility. Reports to the Superintendent and the Central Office Director of Internal Affairs and performs duties under minimal supervision.

Responsibilities :
Investigates incidents/accidents involving staff, offenders, or others associated with the facility.
Investigates correspondence between incarcerated persons and staff.
Reviews questionable correspondence for compliance to Indiana codes and handles final disposition of mail.
Facilitates criminal investigations involving outside agencies.
Gathers evidence; recovers and accurately labels items considered evidence for future use in internal/external cases.
Completes and provides reports, information, and criminal intelligence to outside agencies when appropriate.
Follows Department of Correction policies and facility directives.
Works with department management and supervisory personnel to resolve security concerns and problems.
Recommends necessary security changes to the Superintendent.
Utilizes staff in an efficient manner ensuring most cost effective and least restrictive operations.
Conducts inspections of facility to determine whether security procedures are in place and effective.
Assures compliance with applicable regulations and ACA standards.
Assists with developing, implementing, and monitoring facility security procedures.

Preferred
Experience:
Six (6) years full-time professional experience in corrections, investigative work, law enforcement, or military police. At least three (3) years of experience must be in investigative work, plus one (1) year full-time administrative, managerial or supervisory experience. Substitutions: Accredited college training may substitute for the required experience, except for the investigative, administrative, managerial or supervisory experience, with a maximum substitution of three (3) years. (Fifteen (15) semester hours in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Forensic Science, Law Enforcement Science, Police Administration, Psychology, Public Affairs, or Sociology required.) Accredited graduate training may substitute for any of the required experience, except for the administrative, managerial or supervisory experience, with a maximum substitution of one (1) year. (Major in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law, Police Administration, or Public Affairs, with a concentration in Criminology required.) Completion of the Indiana Department of Correction Investigative Training Course or a governmentally sanctioned investigative training program may substitute for one (1) year of the required investigative experience. (Proof of completion must accompany application.) Two (2) years as a state Internal Affairs Officer 3 (2EB3) may substitute for all the required experience.
