Under direct supervision, and at the direction of adjusters, provides support to claims adjusters meet efficient and accurate handling of the technical aspects of claims processing. Responsibilities require a technical knowledge of claims handling practices and procedures in order to perform work. Processes payments and transactions that require independent research and usually requires independent computations in order to complete transactions.
Job Responsibilities
Processes payments including completing any necessary additional research and/or performing required calculations. Final work may be checked by adjuster or supervisor, especially if Claims Assistant uncovers unique or unusual circumstances.
Processes settlement checks and invoices related to claims activity within prescribed requirements.
Prepares and maintains records, registers and schedules within claim files.
In conjunction with payment responsibilities, may locate policies, obtains coverage information, enters loss information into system(s) and orders reports such as medical, police or fire.
May process components or entirety of minor claims which include one or more of the following: medical only, windshield damage, towing and payment of related bills.
May perform regulatory follow up or checks to ensure compliance.
Reconciles claims to meet compliance and specific state mandates.
Performs processing duties within scope of designated authority level and gains manager approval for amounts exceeding authority level.
High school education or equivalent, plus at least 1-2 years of relevant business experience within a claims function and/or 2-3 years of related customer service experience.
Dependability, attention to detail, ability to follow/interpret procedures, and employ reason to accomplish non-routine tasks and duties.
Intermediate level of skill required to open, create and modify various documents using variety of Claims systems and Microsoft Office suite (e.g., documents, spreadsheets, e-mail, etc.) and enter/retrieve information using various applications/systems.
Ability to effectively exchange routine and non-routine information verbally and in writing and apply knowledge of the department''s policies and procedures.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
