Job # 14-0020 - Gas Controller - Owensboro, KY - (1 position)
Position Information:
This position is responsible for controlling the Southern Star Central gas volumes and pressures in a
safe, reliable and efficient manner satisfying customer needs, regulatory requirements and company
policy. The Gas Controller will maximize throughput, minimize fuel use while providing customer
flexibility and reliability. The system will be monitored to ensure optimum control, system availability,
and data integrity. This position requires shift-work on a 12-hour rotational basis, including weekends
and holidays, and may be required to work extra hours during critical periods, such as pipeline
emergencies or extreme cold weather. This position is defined in the safety sensitive category, which is
subject to random drug testing and DOT Operator Qualification requirements.
Primary
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to): Participate in planning system maintenance,
scheduling of system volumes, and utilizing facility operations, (including remote shutdowns and start-
ups) to maintain system integrity. Maintain system volumes and pressures by operating compression
facilities while maximizing system efficiency. Review and control remote receipt/delivery points in
accordance to nomination timelines. Monitor pipeline system utilizing the appropriate tools so parties
can be notified to make changes in operations or schedule repairs. In the absence of higher authority,
make decision regarding gas rerouting during emergencies and impact of weather forecast on the
system. Receive and screen telephone calls, reply to other pipeline companies and other pipeline
situations. Record all pressures and volumes received from field personnel on daily and hourly basis.
Observe all administrative policies.
Physical Requirements:
Primary physical requirements include (but not limited to): Work in an office setting; handle office
equipment (telephone, computer, fax,etc.); regular, prompt attendance; moderate to high stress; travel
less than 25%; overtime (with and without notice). Routine standing and sitting at a desk for an
extended period. Appropriately communicating (verbal and in writing) with internal and external people.
Qualifications:
Minimum
? High School diploma or GED? Knowledge and understanding of natural gas pipeline operations? Must possess intermediate computer skills to utilize Gas Control applications.? Demonstrated interpersonal and analytical skills? Strong customer service? Demonstrated verbal and written communications
? Demonstrated problem-solving skills (understanding cause and effect)
Preferred
? Bachelors Degree or will consider equivalent formal technical training, or equivalent amount
