Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently looking for a Fuel Economy Development Manager to lead the Fuel Economy Development team to meet key deliverables. These include: establish targets for future fuel economy characteristics through analysis of current and future HMC and KMC vehicles and competitive vehicle. Investigate new technologies, strategies, and methods to attain improved fuel economy in our production vehicles. This opportunity is at our Superior Township, MI research and development facility.
Develop new Fuel Economy technologies and strategies that can enable short term and long term benefits to production vehicles. Lead the Engineering teams within Hyundai/Kia US (HATCI) to define and demonstrate the fuel economy technology in vehicle applications (Real World and Label Fuel Economy)
Investigate new technologies , strategies, and methods to attain improved fuel economy in our production vehicles.
Track specific concepts and their developmental progress.
Coordinate with other teams within HATCI on their F.E. related technologies
Work with the engineering teams in Korea on the concepts
Understand and coordinate with Planning, Certification and Regulation teams the impact of proposed FE tech.
Analyze competitive data sets and assess future trends in Fuel Economy related technology
Lead the development teams to Integrate the Powertrain F.E. related concepts (Engine, Transmission, Torque converter and Control logics, and Calibration) to attain targeted vehicle Fuel Economy and understand and document impacts and trade offs to Vehicle performance and Driveability.
Coordinate, and track preparation of test plans, project plans; schedule development, calibration plans, and failure mode analysis.
Champion a team of engineers to develop F.E. technologies and create a process for Fuel Economy Development
Assess Technology benefits and draw backs including system costs, driveability impacts and performance.
Present Strategies and technologies to management staffs (report and document technical analysis, system trade- offs as well as business case for technologies)
Collaborate with other HATCI and Korean development teams, share information, generate execution plans, manage the project deliverables including project targets and timing.
Support other management requests as they occur.
Assist in planning and monitoring of department budget.
Create and present technical reports as assigned.
Perform additional projects as assigned.
Travel up to 20% of time domestic and internationally.
Required
Experience:
Bachelor of science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or similar related degree. Post graduate degree preferred. (Masters or Doctorate)
15 years experience in Fuel Economy Technology development or research at an OEM, Tier One, Major Engineering Consulting Firm, or University Research.
Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
