The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is accepting applications for an Assistant Scientist II. This position will reside within the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and will conduct chemical analyses on a wide variety of biological specimens using state-of-the-art Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LCMS) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) technologies for both clinical diagnostic and research applications. The position uses these advanced analytical chemistry tools to quantifiably detect drugs, toxins, and a myriad of physiologically impacting compounds in clinical specimens submitted to the Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory by practicing veterinarians, researchers, exhibition or gaming commissions, and industry partners.
This work will include researching and developing appropriate analyte isolation for characterization on LCMS and GCMS, as well as, developing LCMS and GCMS methods that will optimize detection of said analytes. The individual will interpret and communicate the results to Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory clientele and assist in preparing documents for publication and funding proposals; and develop innovative methods for analyte isolation from biological matrices based on information from a wide variety of sources including literature reports, industry experience, and contact with colleagues in animal pharmacokinetics, veterinary toxicology, and the drug detection industries. The individual will maintain equipment and follow set maintenance procedures, and, as needed will train others on equipment and procedures and assist in training students that may be working in the laboratory.
The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively through speaking and writing; write reports to clearly explain and document clinical results and research findings; possess great attention to detail in relation to day-to-day operation of sensitive instrumentation; and the ability to appropriately tune instruments and sample reproducibility. The individual will also possess the ability to develop, document, and successfully perform methods through validation. Bachelor''s degree and 4 years of related experience or Master''s degree and 2 years of related experience. Degree must be in Chemistry, Toxicology, Biochemistry, Biology or related field. Experience must include work in Mass Spectrometry.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
