Summary:
This individual will be the key internal Ophthalmology Research scientist supporting the design and creation of viral vectors for genetic manipulation of experimental animals for the group. They will be responsible for the design and creation of viruses for biological experiments necessary to develop animal models and deliver experimental therapeutic proteins. This individual will also help implement these in vivo experiments, and provide in-house technical expertise for interacting with external collaborators on gene therapy projects.
Responsibilities:
Designing, cloning and packaging of AAV and Lenti-viral vectors.
Design of micro-RNA and shRNA vectors.
Cell culture of lines and primary cells.
Quality assessment of vectors and gene expression.
PREFERRED FUNCTIONS
Animal models of eye diseases, in vivo procedures eg intravitreal, sub-retinal, intra-peritoneal and subcutaneous injections, oral gavage, blood collection
Animal breeding, Genotyping, RT-PCR, ELISA, immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, immunocytochemistry, cryo-sections, histology and immunohistochemistry
Confocal and fluorescence microscopy. Electroretinogram (ERG), Spectral domain Optical Coherence tomography (SD-OCT), Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscopy.

This position requires advanced degree, PhD and/or MD with atleast 2 years post-doctoral experience .
