This position is located within the National Park Service, Pacific West Region, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Division of Ranger Activities, Interagency Communications Center in Boulder City, NV.
SUBJECT TO DRUG TESTING: PRE-EMPLOYMENT, RANDOM & REASONABLE SUSPICION OBTAIN A FAVORABLY ADJUDICATED BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION PRIOR TO START MUST HOLD A VALID STATE DRIVERS LICENSE
Operates with a number of public safety computer networks and NCIC/NLETS (National Crime Information Center; FBI). Serves as a certified full access NCIC/NLETS and related state systems operator. Maintains system security and complied with all operating procedures that regulate these advanced systems, utilizing the appropriate Originating Agency Identifier (ORI). On a daily basis, receives non-emergency calls for service. Gathers all pertinent information for the call to determine whether it requires dispatching a vehicle, vessel or aircraft. Must provide precise information as to the locations which may not have street addresses such as road mile marker, river mile marker, lake cove name, etc. Must be able to provide a latitude/longitude or a Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) location.
Incumbent must function efficiently in a confined space for extended periods with no breaks and no opportunity to leave the confines of the Communications Center. The dispatcher is considered an essential employee, meaning he/she is required to work most holidays, report for duty during adverse weather conditions, and be expected to work for long hours exceeding normally scheduled shifts in case of emergencies. The incumbent is subject to mandatory call backs and extensions of shift. Position is sedentary with high amounts of mental stress and fatigue. Incumbent is subject to shift work, rotating shift work and uncommon tours of duty. Work requires use of the voice in vocal communications for periods of hours at a time. Voice must be clear, audible, and tone effective with words plainly spoken and understandable. Incumbent must be able to hear clearly and discern a variety of audible communications and signals simultaneously. The work is of an emergency nature and is emotionally stressful. Incumbent must possess manual dexterity sufficient to operate computer terminals/keyboards and related equipment and to maintain written logs. Work involves occasional lifting of boxes and supplies up to weights of 50 pounds The work is normally performed in a well lighted and temperature controlled room. Noise levels are routinely high due to electronic equipment, telephones, radios, and other discussions ongoing in the performance of duties. The setting is typically confined and secure, and, entrance and egress is controlled. Incumbent may not leave the center unless relieved by another dispatcher.

FOR THE GS-04: You must possess one year of general experience.
GENERAL
Experience: Defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position.
FOR THE GS-05: You must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level of difficulty and responsibility.
SPECIALIZED
Experience: Defined as performing public safety dispatch (law enforcement, emergency medical, search and rescue, and fire) using personal computers and software programs. Public Safety dispatch includes but not limited to: Monitoring and responding to radio communications; answer 9-1-1 calls and other emergency reporting systems; Receiving, evaluating, and summarizing complaints prior to dispatching the information; Dispatch appropriate emergency services personnel; Querying data bases; Record keeping; Providing callers with general information.
QUALITY RANKING FACTOR: The Interagency Communications Center (ICC) frequently relies on information from various electronic Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS). In order to assess those abilities which could immediately enhance performance in this position, applicants who have been trained to use, and/or have authorized access to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) are highly desirable. You _will not_ be rated ineligible if you do not already possess these abilities.
NOTE: Credit will be given for all qualifying experience regardless of whether compensation was received and whether the experience was gained as a part-time or full-time occupation. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. To receive credit for such experience , your resume must indicate clearly: 1. The nature of your duties and responsibilities in each position; and 2. Complete dates of employment period (e.g. MM/YY to MM/YY, MM/YYYY to Present, etc.); and 3. The number of hours per week spent in such employment for each position. In lieu of the experience requirements you may substitute the following education:
GS-04: Two years of education above the high school level in any field of study for which high school graduation or the equivalent was a prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university. (One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school
GS-05: Four years of education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to this position.
A combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total minimum qualification requirements. It is your responsibility to provide documented proof that you have met the applicable educational provisions. Unofficial college transcript(s); a statement from the registrar, dean, or other appropriate official; or equivalent documentation (a listing of college courses completed) is acceptable. These are Permanent, Full-Time positions subject to shift work, night and/or weekends, emergency call-out, and may include working holidays.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
