Overall Purpose/Job Objective:
This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. The station archaeologist will develop an active research program in southwest Arkansas and will write grants to support research efforts. The SAU research station archaeologist is required to teach two undergraduate anthropology/archaeology courses (or perform equivalent service) each spring semester, develop small-scale museum exhibits for the campus, and work closely with campus administration and faculty. The station archaeologist provides support to the Kadohadacho Chapter of the Arkansas Archaeological Society. Other Society related duties include participating in the annual June training program for amateurs sponsored by the Survey and the Society, and attending the Society''s annual meeting in September. In addition, the station archaeologist will provide technical support and advice to federal, state, and local agencies, descendant communities, and members of the public as requested. Routine station operations include care of archaeological collections from southwestern Arkansas, maintenance of site and project information for the area, updating existing site file information and recording new sites in the state database, and supervising one station assistant. The person hired will have a research title in the Department of Anthropology, University of Arkansas-Fayetteville and can chair and serve on graduate committees. Qualifications:
Publications, fieldwork and research experience in the Southeast or Mid-South and experience in museum exhibit preparation is preferred.
