JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for multiple phases of billing process and to ensure acceptable cash flow and appropriate days in receivable by timely follow-up and resolution of balances owed by third party payers and patients. This position is on the Customer Service team, assisting laboratory patients with their questions regarding their bills. This is a 7-person team. Each member takes approximately 85 calls per day
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1, Perform billing function which may include all or some of the following: data enter billing information; prepare initial billing including recording any discrepancies onto permanent record; post payments into billing system; provide billing and account information to patients, clients and insurance companies; reconcile and prepare daily bank deposits and receipts.
2. May be responsible for Daily account follow up
3. May be responsible for taking new information and updated accounts and opening accessions.
4. Submission of timely and accurate billing.
5. Research and resolve credit balances, missing payments and unposted cash as appropriate.
6. Responds to and maintains correspondence.
7. Responds to customer inquires in a timely and professional manner
8. Communicates appropriately with insurance companies, patients, co-workers and supervisors
9. Resolve insurance claim rejections/denials and remedy expediently.
10. Meets minimum productive standards and assists with departmental coverage as needed.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
o High School Diploma or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
o Minimum of one year experience in a medical setting, data entry of clinical financial system preferred. Formal training or college coursework in lieu of experience will be considered.
o Knowledge of insurance processes, collection procedures and regulations preferred.

OTHER SKILLS:
o Proficient use of computers including Microsoft Office applications
o Must be proficient in 10-key by touch and keyboarding skills.
o Ability to operate other general office equipment
o Excellent spelling and grammar
o Excellent phone and customer service skills
o Must be able to mange conflict, communicate effectively and professionally, and meet time sensitive deadlines.
o Able to work without supervision, but know when to consult with supervisory personnel for assistance in determining appropriate actions
o Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritized and meet deadlines
o May require knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
