Job Summary
Primarily responsible for the daily operation of the fleet operations.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for the daily dispatching of fleet drivers and for the movement of freight within the company and to customers to effectively utilize the fleet for the best customer service at the least cost.
Ensures that the company fleets operate within all Department of Transportation (DOT) and company guidelines. Maintains DOT Accident Registers.
Develops weekly and monthly dispatch plans to minimize empty dead-head miles traveled by the drivers and to maximize the return on assets managed for the company
Coordinates with the Fleet Operations Manager to meet special transportation needs that can not be provided by common carriers due to prohibitive cost or a lack of equipment availability. Works to develop new routes and profitable trips that benefit the truck lines.
Responsible for the truck lines and their successful operation. Must be flexible to change our truck operation to coincide with the varying raw material vendor shipping locations, special or unique customer needs, and the critical needs of our production plants to handle the maximum volume whenever possible to better serve the company.
Develops and maintains procedures in operating leased trucks and equipment. Provides information as to the size and type of equipment that is needed. Provides cost data that can be used to determine what type leases are most beneficial to the company.
Works with all company drivers, receives their log sheets and records hours worked and mile driven to ensure our operations are within federal legal limits. Responsible for enforcing all DOT safety regulations for all drivers and for issuing reprimands or other disciplinary action as is deemed necessary for any violation as well as handling driver problems in order to maintain the most efficient operation.
Maintains up-to-date driver qualification files. Schedules driver physical testing, drug testing, and alcohol testing programs as required by the DOT. Maintains and monitors on-board truck monitors to ensure legal, safe, and efficient operations.
Develops and maintains safety procedures for the truck line. Participates in the planning and the presentation of driver safety meetings.
Responsible for hand calculations of all driver's weekly payroll. Processes Teamster Credit Union withholdings and monthly dues.
Provides input used in the negotiations of Union Contracts pertaining to the truck drivers.
Maintains contact as is necessary with the shipping and receiving departments of our production facilities and with our owned and outside warehouse locations to facilitate interplant transportation. Works with customer service, replenishment, advertising, purchasing, and other in-house departments to satisfy internal and external customer needs as often as is possible.
Supervises maintenance programs with our equipment suppliers and our maintenance suppliers to ensure that they handle their maintenance responsibility. Handles daily vehicle maintenance file reporting on each tractor and trailer. Responsible for making sure all necessary repairs are made prior to the next trip. Maintains and records cost data on which to base new leases. Authorizes maintenance invoices for lease equipment and repairing equipment.
Authorizes the purchase of permits as needed and secures additional equipment as needed to supplement our current fleet for interim periods of time as the situation calls for.
Provides management monthly reporting of all truck line revenue, miles driven, weight transported, and operational income after expenses. Maintains data necessary to monitor truck line metrics.
Prepares reports as required by the Fleet Operations Manager or the General Traffic Manager.
May on occasion be required to perform duties other than those named in description. Performs other related functions.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
