Duties DescriptionThe New York State Education Department''s Office of Information Technology Services is seeking an applicant for the position of Information Technology Specialist (ITS) 2 (Programming). The incumbent of this position will work as a member of the application development team, provide programming support for NYSED''s enterprise applications and develop Information Technology (IT) solutions to support the business needs of the New York State Education Department (NYSED). We work in an environment committed to implementing progressive technologies. This position requires a willingness and aptitude to learn quickly. Duties of this position will include, but may not be limited to:
Writing computer programs based on developed and approved program specifications, including but not limited to the Java programming language;
Collaborating with program office and IT staff to understand the business requirements of the information system(s);
Analyzing and recommending system modifications and determining the impact of proposed changes;
Identifying and troubleshooting problems as well as implementing necessary solutions;
Conducting unit testing of individual components;
Assisting with system maintenance activities;
Conducting business systems analysis and design working closely with IT technical unit staff; and
Ensuring that systems and procedures are properly documented, meet Department standards, and follow generally accepted IT practices.
The following skills and abilities will be beneficial to successful performance of the job:
Knowledge and practical experience programming in Java, Frameworks, PL/SQL, SQL, and XML; and
Knowledge and experience with Oracle Databases and UNIX operating environments.
Additional CommentsCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of Budget approval.
