#### Primary Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Seed Technologist will be the evaluation of purity samples and germinating seedlings in standard, vigor and herbicide bioassay tests.
This is a full time position located in Brookings, SD.
#### Reporting to
SGS Agriculture Multi-Species Laboratory Supervisor

#### Specific responsibilities
Verify all noxious weed identifications and insures quick, accurate throughput of all samples including proficiency tests.
Update nomenclature and adds verified species to seed herbarium.
Organize, file and keep current the species files on purity and varietal purity tests.
Examine seed samples identifying other seed species, classifying inert matter, classifying true/off-types, varieties and measuring physical characters.
Evaluate germinating seeds/seedlings per established procedures/rules on standard, vigor tetrazolium and herbicide bioassay tests on all submitted species.
Review AOSA, ISTA and Canadian Rules and Seedling Evaluation references periodically.
Trouble shoot and monitor for irregularities in seed or seedling test results, media, temperatures, equipment and facilities.
Expand knowledge and professionalism in seed technology by participating in in-house continuing education, enrolling in relevant coursework, attending workshops, participating in professional seed technology committees and associations.
Insure quality and confidentiality of client and company information and take an active role in updating Quality System.
Assist in other areas of the company as needed.
Promote responsibility, good work habits, a positive work environment and improve customer service.
At all times, comply with SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct.
#### Profile
Degree in Agriculture or Biological Sciences.
Registered Seed Technologist (RST) certification is preferred (obtaining an CVT/RST within two years is expected)
Experience in purity, tetrazolium (TZ), germination, and agricultural experience preferred.
#### Skills
Excellent organizational and communication skills required.
Must be a self starter and able to work in a fast paced work environment.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Must be detail oriented and well organized.
Must have excellent communications skills and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods.
Must be able to regularly lift 15-20 pounds.
Must be able to manage numbers mentally.
