Performs a variety of routine tasks and operations to prepare, cook, chill and serve a number of food items for meal service as directed. Follows standard practices and procedures and complies with regulatory requirements.
Follows standardized recipes. Has knowledge of cooking techniques and of cooking time by boiling, baking, and steam cooking or frying in accordance with recipes. May prepare breakfast menu items, hospital lunch or dinner items, cafeteria food or catering menus. Slice, portion or weigh meats, fruits and vegetables. Food prepared may be either for cook/chill or cook/serve service. Items will be handled appropriately for each type of service. Chill foods using established procedures and policies according to Federal, and State guidelines.
Must observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired regarding person, financial, medical or employment of patients, families, and employees of PCMC. Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and PCMC. Must report hazards and initiate appropriate action. Must participate in safety instructional programs.

Education: High School Diploma, GED acceptable with ability to follow written and oral instructions and follow established procedures. Ability to communicate, written and orally, in English.
Experience: Knowledge of cooking methods and procedure, including various types of preparation and related work. Familiar with institutional kitchen equipment. Training in institutional food preparation or equivalent demonstrated knowledge and skills. Sufficient previous experience, through on-the-job training is provided. Knowledge of cook/chill food preparation and service. PC skills or applicable computer experience.
