Summary
The Senior Accounting Associate is responsible for the financial accounting and tracking of all of NRECA's companies' capital assets and serves as the accounting liaison for several business units. This position prepares monthly financial and analytical statements; monitors and analyzes monthly financial performance and recommends corrective action, when necessary. In addition, the position interacts with various levels of management throughout the organization, and will be responsible for managing the capital asset process for multiple locations. The primary duties include ensuring assets are appropriately setup and maintained in the financial accounting system, recording depreciation and reconciling balance sheet accounts as assigned on a monthly basis. The position is highly visible and plays a key role in shaping and developing strong internal controls and policies over safeguarding of capital assets for multiple companies. The position is a key member of the annual capital budget and will support several business units in developing their individual budgets.
Purpose and Mission
1. Acts as the accounting liaison for several business units providing accounting insight and financial analysis for business units monthly.
2. Proposes and records monthly journal entries and reconciles balance sheets accounts monthly as assigned.
3. Prepares monthly financial statements and other financial reports and communicates results to various managers throughout the organization.
4. Monitors transactions that are marked as capitalized and determines whether they meet the capitalization guidelines under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. In addition, the position will adhere to NRECA's capitalization policies and procedures.
5. Records monthly depreciation for all capital assets across multiple companies.
6. Keeps accounting database up to date and reconciled with NRECA's asset tracking system.
7. Performs physical inventory of assets and reconcile to accounting system.
8. Reviews asset leases and software licenses for proper accounting treatment and compliance.
9. Assists in developing financial and physical controls over assets and updating capital asset policies and procedures, as necessary. In additional ad hoc projects as requested.
10. Helps plan and develop the annual capital budgets for various departments.
The position is responsible for keeping informed and knowledgeable regarding new accounting pronouncements that impact NRECA as well as changes and enhancements to NRECA's accounting and budgeting systems. The position will develop and maintain business advisory skills.
Requirements and Qualifications
B.S./M.S. in Accounting; CPA preferred
CMA or MBA credentials a plus
3-4 years of progressive accounting/finance/budgeting experience
Current, in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Advanced MS Office skills (Expert Excel skills)
Customer service oriented with excellent written and oral communication skills
Oracle and/or Hyperion experience a plus
