The employee in this position serves as a full-time, temporary Biological Science Technician (Fisheries) for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 6, Creston National Fish Hatchery, located in Kalispell, Montana.
This is a temporary appointment, not-to-exceed 1 year, which may be extended for a total appointment of 2 years.

Collect, count, and measure eggs; observe and examine fish for diseases; apply recommended chemical treatments when necessary.
Maintain accurate records of fish growth, feed, temperature, mortality, disease treatments, etc.
Prepare fish for distribution by truck, including treatment of water with buffers and anesthetics as directed.
Operates fish distribution units for delivery to scheduled stocking sites.
Clean fish tanks and raceways; assist with outside station maintenance.
The employee must be able to do strenuous work under varying conditions; often in cold water for long periods of time. The employee works indoors and outdoors during all types of weather conditions. Appropriate clothing and/or safety gear must be worn depending upon the safety requirements of the duties performed.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: GS-06: One year of progressively responsible experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05 grade level is qualifying for GS-06) that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience at this level includes all of the following: assistant work collecting, identifying, marking, weighing and measuring fish; feeding, cleaning and maintaining fish tanks and raceways; maintaining water quality control; loading fish on distribution trucks and hauling to stocking locations; building and grounds maintenance; collecting and recording information on fish for biological work that is performed in a controlled environment, which includes research activity or control program work.

Applications are evaluated and rated under Category Rating and Selection procedures. Category rating combines the applicant''s total experience and/or education/training into a single category. Full-time work is generally considered to be 35 to 40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in qualifying activities.

If the Two-Phase process is used, Phase 1 will consist of a review against the criteria described in this announcement to determine a pool of applicants for the Best Qualified category, who in turn will be further evaluated in Phase 2. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
