The University of Michigan-Dearborn has an exciting opportunity for a System Administrator Intermediate/Senior with the Information Technology Services Department. The person holding this position will report to the Information Technology Manager.
The chosen candidate will work with technical team on activities related to administration, maintenance, and support of campus IT systems on a multi-platform environment to support network infrastructure, core services, and business processes.
Job Functions/ Duties:
Primary responsibility for installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows operating system servers in support of network and business processing requirements.
Reviews production reports and records, machine malfunctions and maintenance, as well as organizational, procedural, and workflow plans and methods.
Monitors and tunes Windows systems to achieve optimum performance levels. Provides technical direction and recommendations to improve utilization.
Performs software installations and upgrades to Windows operating systems and layered software packages.
Ensures workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions.
Secondary responsibility for assisting other systems administrators in support of campus Linux, storage system and virtual platform.
Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures.
Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations.
Supports media management through internal methods and procedures or through offsite storage and retrieval services.
Develops and promotes standard operating procedures.
Conducts routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
Analyzes computer room layout and requirements. Works with team to plan optimal placement and cabling.
Develops and maintains comprehensive library of documentation, procedures, and other supporting media as required.

Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in computer science, or equivalent combination of education and 3-5 years of experience required
Expertise in administering complex, multi-layered server environment
3-5 years demonstrated professional experience in Windows server administration
Considerable knowledge of standard operating systems, including Unix, Linux, Windows, and Apple is necessary.
Advanced knowledge of Internet and communications protocols is required.
Some knowledge of distributed computing applications is required.
Knowledge and experience with authentication systems is required.
Good communication skills and ability to interact professionally with management, staff, faculty, and students.
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other members of the technical team.
Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
Ability to plan and successfully perform assigned tasks and meet the deadlines in a project environment.
Currently this classification is considered non-exempt based on compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
