THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN THE NETWORK SERVICES JOINT SYSTEMS ENGINEERING AND INTEGRATION OFFICE SPECIAL PROJECTS DIVISION, FORT MEADE, MARYLAND.

Serves as a senior engineer and technical expert for the Chief, Special Projects Division, in all engineering aspects, and provides team leadership in the administration of special projects and task forces related to engineering aspects of Secure Classified Communications for the National Leadership Communications Capability (NLCC) community.
Serves as the assistant to the Chief of Special Projects Division and represents the Chief in senior management level meetings, acting in his/her absence to provide technical oversight of staff and provide recommendations on program and staff performance.
Develops new and innovative concepts, strategies for assessments and advancement of computer or telecommunications networks while adapting and applying advanced computer networking methods and techniques to solve complex and unique decision making service requirements.
Integrates and coordinates the efforts of other DISA entities, Department of Defense (DoD), other governmental agencies and industry, in improving secure/classified mobility architectures and implementation. Should have a strong background in principles of IP communications, mobile networking technology, physics, digital signal processing, and network routing.
Works with civilian and military technicians within the Nuclear Command, Control and Communications (NC3), Continuity of Operations/Continuity of Government (COOP/COG), National Military Command System (NMCS), NLCC and Senior Leader community, which includes members of the Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, military services, Chief Information Officers and on occasion members of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Network and Information Integration (ASD/NII).
Formulates, guides, and directs analytical studies to develop strategies for achieving approved long range objectives in advancing test and evaluation technologies, methodologies and concepts.
Serves as a consultant in NC3/COOP/COG/Senior Leader with responsibility for developing standard methods and procedures to be used throughout the Combatant Commands, military Services, and Defense Agencies. Develops and correlates research objectives; originates new concepts, methods, and techniques for research planning, program guidance, program evaluation, technological forecasting, and resource allocation.
Basic Requirements:
For the GS-854 and GS-855 Professional Engineering Series: Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
OR Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:

For the GS-1550 Computer Science Series: Bachelor''s degree in computer science or bachelor''s degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, qualified applicants must possess: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized experience is defined as: Team Lead, Engineering, planning, designing, and reviewing designs of information systems, which are designed as a total integrated system that incorporates a scalable hierarchy; develops and correlates research objectives; originates new concepts, methods, and techniques for research planning.
Education is not substitutable for specialized experience for this grade level. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
