North Shore Gas, a subsidiary of Integrys Energy Group, is currently recruiting for Corrosion Technician positions for our office in Waukegan,
IL. This position reports to the General Supv, Operations.
Job
Summary:
Performs structure-to-soil voltage readings on steel components of a gas distribution system. Performs troubleshooting and coordinates the
corrective action activities as a member of the gas operations team. Inspects work performed by company contractors.
Responsibilities:
Perform cathodic protection readings on a gas distribution system in the field: - measuring structure-to-soil potentials (voltage readings) - analyze and interpret GIS information on a gas distribution system - investigate and ensure electrical isolation of corrosion families - investigate and ensure gas distribution system steel components are adequately protected from various underground interferences - inspect and obtain voltage and current output readings from rectifiers - inspect and obtain readings from electrical bonds - gain understanding of corrosion compliance requirements as well as customer satisfaction issues.
Use diagnostic equipment to identify and troubleshoot mains/services that are below/above cathodic protection levels and determine proper
corrective actions. Determine corrective action to remediate issues. Communicate and coordinate corrective action activities with other field
personnel. Gain an understanding of piping design, components and equipment used on the gas distribution system. Utilize diagnostic
equipment to determine the amount of anodes required to protect steel pipelines and utilize underground utility knowledge to determine anode
placement, utilize diagnostic equipment and underground utility knowledge to determine cathodic protection interference, field test with
diagnostic equipment to identify coating anomalies on steel pipelines, locate buried metallic pipelines and electrical shorts and installation and
inspection of electrical bonds.
Ensure the accuracy of the electronic recordkeeping databases and paper tickets, (including GIS). Prepare workflow documentation and address questions from internal and external parties as a subject matter expert. Communicate improvements in processes, procedures and workflow for operational excellence.

Qualifications: High School Diploma, HSED, or GED

years - Gas Operations experience or equivalent.
