The BLM seeks a dynamic and energetic student to join its team and gain valuable work experience as a Student Trainee (Hydrological Tech) in the Eastern Interior Field Office.

This is a temporary, excepted service appointment under the BLM Internship Program that is expected not-to-exceed 1 year. This type of appointment is intended only for temporary projects, to perform labor-intensive tasks not requiring subject matter expertise, or to fill traditional summer jobs. The BLM will require the selected applicant to complete a Participant Agreement in which it shall document the anticipated start and end dates for this temporary appointment.

As a Student Trainee (Hydrological Tech), you will:
Conduct water resources inventories in order to provide predictive information to be used in the Bureau''s planning and land management system
Assist in conducting hydrology and riparian surveys using appropriate equipment and maintaining detailed and accurate field reports
Assist in collecting water quality and water chemistry data
Assist in preparation of graphs, tables, and maps for reports

To be eligible, an applicant must:
Be at least 18 years of age or older for an arduous or hazardous duty position.
Be a student who has been accepted for enrollment or is currently enrolled at least half-time in a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) seeking program in an accredited high school, technical or vocation school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school. Possess a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 or higher.
Specialized Experience Requirements:

General experience must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of a Hydrological Technician. Specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-03 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include work such as: technician or aid in engineering earth, physical, or natural science, forestry, soil conservation or surveying; trades or crafts work in maintenance or construction of facilities or equipment related to hydrology; drafting; or construction estimating.
OR Education: Successful completion of two (2) years of study postsecondary education (above high school) which includes at least 12 semester hours of courses in any combination of the following courses: engineering, industrial technology, construction drafting, surveying, physical science, biology, or mathematics. You must submit a copy of your transcripts with the application materials.
OR Combination of Experience and Education: An equivalent combination of general experience and education, as described above.
