The incumbent has direct line responsibility for all healthcare team members as assigned. In this capacity, the incumbent provides full support to the Surgical/Specialty Care Nursing Administrator. The incumbent is responsible for leadership required to ensure effective implementation of plans established by senior management. Leadership includes performing special studies and chairing special working groups as required. The incumbent develops background and management options available to deal with complex clinical care planning and implementation problems.
The incumbent ensures integration of all clinical care initiatives in terms of phasing and monitoring implementation progress. He/she recommends action or adjustments necessary to achieve required objectives. The incumbent represents the clinical care team at medical center and community activities. Interprets medical center policy and procedures. Duties include analysis, development, and recommending of policies and procedures for improvement of services to the inpatient patient population. Responsible for 15 bed inpatient medicine unit with telemetery.
The incumbent supervises the functional team utilizing knowledge of the PI process. This includes an understanding of data collection, data analysis and the implementation of performance improvement activities. He/she plans, implements, evaluates, and revises a PI plan for the functional staff in concert with the Surgical/ Specialty Care Nursing Administrator that is integrated and reflects systematic review and improvement in key patient care processes.
The incumbent participates in the development and implementation of both long and short policies and plans for the team, giving special consideration to the integration of internal administrative and clinical policies, standards, and requirements of various regulatory and accrediting bodies and to the impact of internal policies on outside entities such as other area hospitals and the community at large.
He/she facilitates multidisciplinary participation in the problem identification and resolution process of unit management, utilization of human resources data, and budgetary information to formulate recommendations to the Surgical/Speciality Care Nursing Administrator.

Citizen of the United States. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia .
In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. _Must be proficient in spoken and written English_.

Nurse II - For Internal VA candidates : A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master''s degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
Nurse II - For all other candidates : A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience or a Master''s degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
