The Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) provides services, and recommendations for the management of DOE information resource management activities. The DOE Chief Technology Officer (CTO) sits within the DOE OCIO and helps define and support the implementation of policies and procedures for the planning, acquisition, management, and security of federal and departmental shared technology services, and outline innovative ways to support specific DOE mission objectives. The CTO also provides leadership for crosscutting issues raised by laboratory, field, program or headquarters offices, by serving as technical expert, facilitator, ombudsman and/or coordinator.
A successful candidate in this position will support the CTO in a number of cross-disciplinary areas by engaging in areas of Strategic Planning, Technology Futures and Policy Planning, Enterprise and Partner Engagement, and delivering on the innovative and logistical elements required to augment the CTO's responsibilities for supporting Department''s Strategic Goals and the President's National Initiatives. As an IT Specialist, you will:
Advise the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) on issues and opportunities for IT across a broad range of commodity and mission-specific areas.
Monitor technology trends and research and recommend standards, products and roadmaps to promote ways of successfully delivering commodity and mission IT efficiently and effectively.
Assist in identifying, documenting, and communicating best practices around technology trends such as cloud computing, big data, and mobility. These engagement activities include helping to identify, document and highlight technologies use cases to support DOE's mission.
Lead and support business transformation efforts including the research, planning, analysis and evaluation of disruptive technologies and their potential impacts on DOE activities.
Engage interagency, intergovernmental, and industry communities to identify opportunities to define how technology and trends can be effectively embraced and managed within Government.
Help translate strategic planning and insights into tangible direction for management and execution across the department.
For this position education cannot be substituted for experience. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT FOR THIS VACANCY:
A Preliminary background check must be completed before a new employee can begin work with the U.S. Department of Energy. The preliminary background check consists of a search of Office of Personnel Management and Department of Defense background investigation files and an FBI National Criminal History Fingerprint Check.

A qualified candidate''s online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience in planning advanced systems projects or resolving critical problems in existing systems which require innovative solutions.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR - This factor MUST be met in order to be eligible for this position: experience in developing strategic plans in order to promote, streamline, and accelerate technology transfer and commercialization within national lab and entrepreneurial communities consistent with the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and Startup America initiative.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
