This Social Worker is assigned to the HBPC Program with responsibility to provide direct services for adult and geriatric veterans enrolled in this program. He/she is responsible for assessment, planning, and provision of case management services in the HBPC Program. This professional social worker coordinates a variety of activities including outreach, interdisciplinary activities, psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, consultation/education to Medical Center staff and community based service providers, the collection and maintenance of statistical data, program planning evaluation and modification, and the supervision fo students as assigned. As a member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team in the HBPC Program, the individual conducts work activity independently using his/her educational training, clinical experience, VA policies, and Joint Commission standards in administering direct services: psychosocial assessment of patient/family needs in relation to the provision of interdisciplinary treatment planning and service delivery; individual, group, and family counseling and casework services for the purpose of addressing identified needs. He/she will provide services both via telephone contact and in the homes of veterans enrolled in HBPC. The incumbent will collaborate with the other members of the HBPC team in the provision of comprehensive health care services to HBPC veterans, will ensure equity of access, service, and benefits to this population. The social worker will conduct training for staff, students and community providers regarding HBPC issues, will provide education, information and liaison with resources for veterans in the community, and will provide technical assistance and educational sessions to community organizations as needed. He/she is responsible for the implementation of written treatment program policies and procedures developed by Social Work Service that are based on coherent empirical and theoretical rationale and are consistent with patient rights and the maintenance of comprehensive written patient progress notes, outcomes and discharge planning services in collaboration with the unit treatment team. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed for the benefits of the veteran, family and quality of services provided.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:45am - 4:30pm nights/weekends as needed

Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Citizenship. Citizen of the United States.
Education. Have a master''s degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master''s degree in social work. (Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website: to verify that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for amaster of social work.
Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social work positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master''s degree level. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website: NOTE: For grades at or below the full performance level, social workers who are not licensed or certified at the time of appointment must become licensed or certified at the independent, master''s level within 3 years oftheir appointment as a social worker.

English Language Proficiency. Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English lanquage in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, Paragraph 3j.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
GS-9 IS THE ENTRY LEVEL for the GS-185 social work series and is used for social workers with less than one year of post-MSW experience and for social workers who are not yet licensed or certified at the independent practice level. Social workers at the GS-9 level are working toward completion of prerequisites for licensure or certification. NOTE: _Social workers with more than one year of post-MSW experience may be appointed at an advanced step within the GS-9 grade commensurate with their years of experience._
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-11 LEVEL: Requires a minimum of one year of post-MSW degree professional social work experience in the field of health care. This experience must have been in a clinical setting and must have demonstrated the potential to perform advanced assignments independently. (A clinical setting is a medical center, clinic - medical or psychiatric, residential treatment center, or any other type of facility where social work participates in a collaborative treatment and is identified with the medical profession.) Experience must have been obtained AFTER earning a Master''s Degree in Social Work.
SUBSTITUTING EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-11 LEVEL: To meet the required specialized experience for the GS-11 level, applicant may substitute a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work. You must submit a transcript to receive credit for this education.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

KSA 5 -Knowledge of psychosocial treatment and ability to independently implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical and social problems to achieve treatment goals. This requires independent judgment and skill in utilizing supportive, problem solving or crisis intervention techniques.
KSA 6 - Ability to independently provide counseling and/or psychotherapy services to individuals, groups and families. Social workers must practice within the bounds of their license or certification. For example, some states may require social workers providing psychotherapy to have a clinical level of licensure.
KSA 7 - Ability to provide consultation services to other staff about the psychosocial needs ofpatients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliancewith treatment. Ability to provide orientation and coaching to new social workers and social work graduate students. Ability to serve as a field instructor for social work graduate students who are completing VHA field placements.
KSA 8 - Ability to independently evaluate his/her own practice through participation in professional peer review case conferences, research studies, or other organized means.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
