One of our clients, based in Nashville, is searching for a candidate to fulfill the role of Sr Sales & Use Tax Accountant for a 6-month contract. This role will be based in Nashville and may lead to a full-time position.
The Sales and Use Tax Accountant is responsible for determining the application of sales and use tax to the company's diverse business operations across virtually every state. This will include conducting research, providing recommendations to business unit leaders and assisting with the management of state tax audits.
Responsibilities:
Maintain knowledge of current US sales and use tax laws and administrative policies
Ensure tax compliance in all states in which the company operates
Conduct internal audits of US business activities
Manage state sales and use tax audits and enquiries
Review state tax audit findings to mitigate fines and penalties
Work with each state to reconcile tax remittances and bring account current
Review compliance procedures and provide recommendations for improvement
Educate company personnel responsible for filing sales and use tax returns
Assist with tax planning for future transactions and contracts
Assist personnel in other divisions with US sales and use tax related matters
Manage interaction with company's customers in relation to sales and use tax
Requirements:
To qualify for consideration, you must meet or exceed the following:
3 to 5 years of US state sales tax experience within a large, multi-state business or accounting firm
Post-secondary education in finance or accounting
Strong software knowledge, particularly MS Excel
Proven analytical skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Self-motivated with the ability to work to tight deadlines
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
