Job Description
Part-time, 24 hours per pay period. Hours vary and include weekends and holidays.
Primary emphasis is on customer service to patients and co-workers. Displays professionalism and promotes an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation. Must maintain confidentiality standards as defined by hospital policies. Must be able to work independently.
Some duties include:
Registers patients for various tests/procedures or admits patients to organization. Responsible for obtaining accurate patient account information as defined by the registration procedures. Pre-register or pre-admit patients by gathering and entering information into the computer system. Contacts patients by phone to verify or obtain information to ensure accurate information as defined by pre-registration procedures. Must have the ability to analyze data and determine correct course of action for patient accounts. . Must have initiative and independent judgment in making decisions as it relates to patient accounts. Must communicate to patients with courtesy and tact. Responsible for maintaining a healthy relationship with other hospital departments to improve processes and to communicate account information. Exhibits excellent customer service skills by assisting patient''s needs, i.e. mobility needs, transporting to departments/units, answering questions. Must maintain proper phone etiquette. Must establish relationships with outside customers (physicians, physician office staff and insurance companies). Complies with other job-related responsibilities that may be assigned by the Manager/Director.
Operates the hospital switchboard console in order to relay incoming, outgoing, and inter-office telephone calls. Performs various hospital communication functions and other duties i.e. pocket pager system, special needs phones. Operates on-call schedule for appropriate areas. Monitors alarms for fire panel, code blue panel, etc. Coordinates the emergency calls to the appropriate team. Informs appropriate authorities of malfunctioning equipment. May be required to monitor, sort and deliver incoming mail. Works with all age groups when answering the switchboard.
Operators must be able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people and different age groups. Operators must be tactful and persistent, but have the ability to remain patient and calm. Must be able to make quick decisions and remain emotionally stable during crisis situations. Operators must have a clear and pleasant voice. Normal eye sight and hearing is essential. Legible writing, intermediate keyboarding and computer skills, and accuracy are important. Punctual and regular attendance is essential.
When students are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as a part of their training, any/all employees may be asked to supervise the students.
Required Skills
Minimum of a high school education, however courses in business and communications would be helpful. Medical terminology courses helpful. Typing required. Worker receives on the job training in hospital routines and policies. Previous experience in hospital environment preferred, but not required.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
