Job Description
Full-time, 80 hours per pay period. Hours are 8:00am-5:00pm.
Must be self directed with a high level of accountability and require minimal supervision. Must display professionalism, maintain high organizational skills and manage time effectively. Must exhibit excellent verbal and written skills. Acts as a liason for the hospital, coordinating financial activities appropriate for account. Charged with interacting with patients, internal personnel and external agencies in a professional manner, keeping with the mission and values of the organization.
Some duties include:
Acts as a liaison between hospital and patient regarding charges and billing procedures. Deductibles, coinsurance patient responsibility are explained to the patient/family. Insurance and Medicare benefits and regulations relating to the hospital stay are discussed patient/family. Determines the patient''s ability to pay, notifies South Dakota counties of residents when necessary, refers patients to other hospital staff when necessary and discusses/assists with completion of the Sanford Financial Assistance forms when appropriate. Follows up in obtaining missing insurance information, patient demographics, etc., on patient accounts. Obtains accident information from patients as a result of an MVA or any liability situation and files liens on specified accounts. Communicates with supervisor and various departments such as Nursing, Admissions, Patient Relations, Quality Resource Management and Social Services to address patient concerns. Works in conjunction with billing department to monitor HIS denials for those accounts that require further investigation/appeal. Assist OPC with overflow registration. Complies with other job relates responsibilities as directed by Manager.
Required Skills
Minimum of a high school education, however, some trade course classes in accounting, business and communications would be very helpful in this position. Previous experience in healthcare service, social work or accounting would be helpful, but not required.
Must obtain CPR Certification within 6 months of hire.
