Dr. Ann Hajek is seeking to fill a postdoctoral position to conduct studies on the European woodwaspSirex noctilio, that has been introduced to North America and the nematodes associated with it in North America. These nematodes can parasitizeS.noctilioand sterilize hosts or they can live mycophagously feeding on the fungal symbiont. Studies will include (1) use of molecular techniques to investigate nematode species and genetic variability inS. noctilioand (2) empirical as well as experimental investigations of nematode host relationships. Responsibilities will also include field work and interacting with collaborators, as well as lab work.
The successful candidate will join an integrated team of researchers committed to understanding microbial associations with insect hosts ( /).
This is a 12-month appointment which is renewable pending available funding.
Required
Qualifications:
PhD in a biological discipline, expertise in basic molecular methods and both field and lab studies and a proven track record of effective research output. Prior research with fungi, nematodes and insects and with both lab and field studies are an advantage. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
