Job Description
The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine is seeking a Director, Single Cell Genomics responsible for the establishment, on-going R&D; and operations of a Single Cell Genomics Core supporting all JAX campuses. Responsibilities include operational oversight, financial oversight and accountability, effective management of customer, vendor and collaborator interactions and continuous method development. The incumbent will lead a core team in the delivery of methods and services supporting JAX and its external partners. In this role, they will directly conduct and guide others (Faculty & external partners) in the identification, import, development, validation and application of single cell genomic methodologies. They will be responsible for conducting independent research advancing among other things, the single cell genomics field. The incumbent will assure the transition of clinically applicable methods developed by JAX-SCGC through JAX Translational Technologies.
Responsibilities:
Establish and oversee Single Cell Genomics Core operations.
Oversee personnel, infrastructure, budget and processes required for the delivery of integrated single cell genomics operations supporting all three JAX campuses needs.
Lead, develop and empower SCGC staff to maintain and evolve expertise and capabilities to ensure JAX SCG capabilities lead the field.
Provide consultative services for experimental design, data acquisition, analysis and downstream interpretation; supports/participates in grant applications and publications w/JAX Faculty.
Interface with other JAX cores to facilitate sample collection, sequencing and analysis.
Assure JAX (research, clinical clients and collaborators) has access to the highest-quality and cost effective SCG services and evolves operational approaches to meet this requirement (including outsourcing).
Establish SCG Project Management capabilities (staff & infrastructure)
Establish processes for internal and external pipeline efforts (defined protocols, deliverables and performance metrics etc.)
Extend the JAX platform access through collaborative, service and commercial partnerships.
Partner closely with JAX Faculty & House Counsel to identify, protect and pursue intellectual property arising from JAX-SCG efforts.
Partner with JAX Translational Technologies & JAX-Counsel, transition of novel JAX-SCG methods from early phase R&D; to operationally robust applications and services and/or licensable IP.
Develop project and funding proposals for private partnerships/sponsored research agreements.
Develop project and funding proposals for public funding of research and development efforts and instrumentation (federal and state grants).
Responsible for conducting independent research
Responsible for seeking independent & collaborative funding
Responsible for publishing findings in respected journals.
Required Skills
PhD in relevant biomedical field (e.g. Genetics, Medical Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Clinical Genomics)
Demonstrated experience in evaluating and implementing new technologies
Established Single Cell Genomics experience (>5 years); evidenced by publication and invited speaker presentations
Prior experience overseeing independent and core laboratory operations (>5 yr.)
Demonstrated collaborative effectiveness (joint funding and publications)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
