This entry-level Forestry position will initially work in the Forest Inventory department and report to the Columbia Timberlands Resource Planning Manager. As a member of the Resource Planning team, this position provides support with various forest management activities across Columbia's western Oregon and Washington operations, including Inventory/GIS, Silviculture, Surveying, Engineering and Harvesting. The position will initially be based out of the Columbia Timberlands main office, located in Longview, WA. This entry-level, professional development opportunity is a full-time, exempt position. Salary level dependent on experience and skills.

As an entry-level Forester with the Forest Inventory department, each candidate must be willing to work across several teams/tree farms to ensure a variety of exposure/experience is available and business needs are met, which will necessitate mobility and possible relocation. Future assignments will be managed through career path discussions/opportunities. As your career progresses, every effort will be made to match career and personal objectives. This program provides a limited, but known, pool of talented candidates that can be accessed from all operating areas to meet staffing needs as appropriate. We will select and place the most qualified employees in fixed tree farm assignments as more advanced positions become available (est. 12 to 36 months) and, based on readiness, promote these individuals into those future vacancies, commensurate with performance and experience. Once a specific tree farm position becomes available as a regular full time assignment, these individuals would be expected to accept and potentially relocate to wherever the vacancy is located.

Key Functions:
Supports Tree Farm Operations with RMA delineation, road location, and harvest unit layout.
Inventories company property including timber cruising, check-cruising, and regeneration surveys, including contract administration of those activities.
Assist with Forest Inventory projects to improve data accuracy and decision support tools.
Conduct timberland appraisals for potential acquisitions; including reconnaissance, data collection, and valuation.
Other general forest management activities as assigned.
Maintain a commitment to having safety as a core value and comply with Sustainable Forestry Initiative standards at all times.
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively with the team and other departments.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the Integrated Skills Development Process (ISDP). The objective of ISDP is designed to provide for a structured process for individual development and promotion matching business skill set needs in the areas of forestry, engineering, planning, land use, and harvesting.

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in Forestry, Forest Engineering, Forest Operations or closely related field.
A minimum of 1 year work experience in a related field.
Specific experience with timber cruising, GIS and reforestation activities is a plus.
Must be a highly motivated, safety conscious and self-directed team player.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
Ability to deal with state and federal wildlife, water and forest practice rules/statutes.
Able to develop, prioritize, plan, implement and manage activities to meet targets and deadlines.
Must have strong analytic and organizational skills.
Proficiency in use of personal computers and related software applications such as MS Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), and Geographical Information Systems are highly desirable with desire to learn.
This position is physically and mentally demanding and requires attention to detail.
Must be able to work on physically challenging terrain in a variety of weather conditions; all that the Northwest has to offer.
Current driver's license is required as work involves driving company vehicles on highway and forest roads.
Willingness and ability to travel to various OR and WA area locations, with possible overnight stays.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
