Nurse Practitioner, Critical Care

Schedule: Full-time (30 - 40 Hours)
Shift: Day shift
Hours: 30 Hours, 3-10 hour day shifts.
Job Details: Under the general direction of the Critical Care Co-Directors and the Director, Critical Care Services and within established policies and procedures, and in accordance with the New Hampshire Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Guidelines, Standards of Care and Practice established by the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies and appropriate specialty organizations relevant to the care of the critically ill adult patient population, the incumbent performs the following functions:
Clinical:
Gathers pertinent information from all sources: history, diagnostic tests, comprehensive physical examinations, and behavioral and developmental assessments in order to establish appropriate priorities of care. Performs daily assessments of all patients when a consult has been requested, including interviews, physical exams, and diagnostic tests. Updates diagnoses/problem list and develops acute and long term plans of care for direct patient management as needed for each problem. Conducts daily SICU/CCU rounds with members of the health care team to gather and exchange patient information: to formulate consensus, short and long term plans of care. Documents physical findings, lab data, diagnoses, plans of care and daily progress notes in the medical record. Provides serial clinical assessments and continuous patient management if needed for patients with complex health care needs. Arranges referrals and consultations with non-medical health care providers and arranges for medical consultations after discussion with primary provider. Writes orders, including diagnostic tests and medication orders (non-narcotic and narcotic) to accomplish acute and long term plan of care. Performs routine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to established protocols and current standards for acute care nurse practitioner practice. Performs treatments and administers pharmacological therapies, IV fluids, and blood products as needed in acute care situations. Manages oxygen and ventilator therapy based on interpretation of clinical, x-ray, and blood gas data in conjunction with the pulmonologists and anesthesiologist. Evaluates patient physiological and behavioral responses to interventions for revision of management plan and documents changes in the medical progress notes. Attends cardiopulmonary arrest situations, and responds to the needs of compromised patients providing resuscitations as needed.
Qualifications:
Education: oSuccessful completion of a basic nursing program and an accredited nurse practitioner program. oMust be certified by a National Certification Corporation.
Experience: oKnowledge of expanded practice skills and in-depth knowledge of critically ill adults including cardiothoracic patients. oMinimum of five years recent critical care and cardiac surgery experience (may be concurrent) which may include both RN and APRN practice.
Licensure/Certification: oCurrent registration in the State of NH as a Registered Nurse. oNH APRN licensure or temporary APRN licensure oDEA number oCCRN, National Certification Corporation or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners oBasic Life Support (BLS) certification required. oAdvanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
