_SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION
_
Under the direction of the Energy Management System Supervision, the EMS Engineer/Analyst will provide computer support services for NorthWestern Energy's electric Energy Management System by supporting the technology used by Grid Operations. The EMS Engineer/Analyst will be a member of a team which is responsible for maintaining the reliability, security, and compliance for the technology used by Grid Operations 24 x 7 x 365. The EMS Engineer/Analyst must work effectively within a team environment and other work groups to accomplish organizational goals. An EMS Engineer/Analyst must demonstrate strong adherence to reliability, security, safe work practices/processes, and compliance. The EMS Engineer/Analyst will be part of an on-call rotation and must be capable of responding to call-outs within 30 minutes.
_DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS_

All EMS Staff are required to understand and comply with applicable FERC, NERC, and WECC standards, including Standards of Conduct, Reliability, and CIP requirements.
The engineer/analyst will support Grid Operations in the following:
Support real-time electric transmission operations at the Control Center.
Maintain and advance technology used by Energy Management System (EMS).
Research, specify, and configure hardware to improve the EMS system.
Patch any or all systems associated with EMS system.
Maintain SCADA displays and point databases used by EMS.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to comply with applicable WECC/NERC standards.
Respond quickly and professionally to support and data requests as required.
Assist in preparing and implementing budgets.
Callouts and extended hours will be required.
Maintain and use all levels of networked computer technology including domain controllers, fileservers, and electronic and physical security systems.
Demonstrate proficiency with the computer hardware and software necessary to conduct daily Grid Operations, specifically real-time SCADA and Energy Management software and associated supporting software.
Maintain positive working relationships with Grid Operations and Compliance personnel.
Job time is primarily spent in an office and control center environment, mostly sitting or standing, using a computer terminal and phones with frequent required walking. Frequent lifting of computer hardware up to 50 lbs. may be necessary.
_GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to demonstrate a good safety record.
Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Computer Science is required or equivalent experience.
Must be able to program using C/C++, and occasionally Fortran and learn other programs as needed.
Must be able to quickly learn to use other specialized computer applications.
Must be very proficient with computers and related equipment.
Good organizational and technical skills are necessary.
Ability to plan and prioritize numerous responsibilities.
Must be highly motivated, self-starters with good analytical, interpersonal, and team skills.
Must be able to handle high-stress situations, make decisions quickly and accurately.
Must have good attention to detail and be able to consolidate information and ideas.
Must communicate well with diverse people.
Must work effectively with minimal supervision.
