Department Summary The qualified candidate will work as a Mechanical Engineer in the Operating Services Section of the Engineering Services Department. The Engineering Services Department provides project management, engineering, construction management, and start-up & testing services for plant modification projects. The Operating Services Section provides engineering support including piping design and analysis, pressure vessel design and analysis, resolution of generating plant operating & maintenance problems and procurement of engineered equipment (e.g., feedwater heaters, pressure vessels, pumps, compressors, control valves, high pressure valves, boilers, etc.). The Operating Services Section also manages and reviews the engineering work performed by engineering companies and consultants that are supporting plant modification projects. Job Description/Responsibilities The proposed candidate will perform standard to moderately complex assignments utilizing professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, theory, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives. The proposed candidate must independently evaluate, select and apply engineering theory, techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require the investigation of variables. The qualified candidate will:
Develop and implement solutions to plant operating and maintenance problems.




Develop and implement plant modification projects. Interface with generating plant staff in the support of plant modifications. Manage engineering contractors used in the support of power plant modifications. Review engineering contractor''s drawings, calculations and specifications. Interface with construction contractors used in power plant modifications. Resolve construction issues. Prepare engineering calculations, equipment specifications and construction specifications in support of plant
modifications.

Qualify equipment suppliers. Specify, bid and prepare bid evaluations for equipment and services. Interface with Supply Chain. Requirements/Qualifications A bachelor''s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited college or university. A master''s degree in mechanical engineering is preferred from a ABET accredited college or university. Must be self-motivated and organized. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work with all levels of the organization. Must be flexible and able to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities. Must demonstrate sound engineering judgment and the ability to solve problems and make decisions. Must be willing to travel around the state and spend extended periods at the plant sites. Must be willing to travel to consultants and equipment suppliers facilities - United States and International - passport is required. Certification of Engineer in training (EIT) is required and Michigan PE registration is preferred. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
