Description: JOB SUMMARY
Perform as first point of contact for reports of suspected abuse and/or neglect. Uses specialized screening techniques to gather comprehensive information regarding concern and identifies imminent safety issues of the child. Provides information to mandated reporters and citizens regarding Child Protection guidelines and regulations. Provides follow-up information to reporting parties regarding assignment of case.

Duties: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)
Accepts reports of potential or alleged abuse and/or neglect of children, youth, or adults by phone or in-person, including: using strong communication skills and maintaining a calm, caring, and professional demeanor; using specialized screening techniques and questions; gathering in-depth information from reporting party maintaining a balance between gathering information and being respectful; using fact based information and developing analytical ability to determine if there is an immediate concern for safety; and receiving reports of suspected abuse and/or neglect from other counties where the report was taken through fax or e-mail and using the same process as a report received by the phone.
Documents all information received, including: entering data into identified database quickly and accurately using appropriate forms based upon the type of report; ensuring that information entered is accurate, complete, and written in a manner that can be easily understood by Red Team or assigning supervisor; using multiple databases, researching family history, and finding as much background information as possible regarding the family and other individuals related to the report; and documenting additional researched information in database and forwarding report to assigning supervisor or appropriate unit.
Accepts incoming calls, including: incoming calls that are related to Child Welfare and Adult Protection but are not reports of neglect and/or abuse; assisting callers with finding the assigned Caseworker, identifying appropriate community resources or referrals, and other general information regarding abuse and/or neglect; assisting caller in understanding the guidelines for investigating neglect and/or abuse by interpreting Human Services programs and existing laws and regulations; referring inappropriate concerns or referrals to other community agencies or resources when possible; and de-escalating potentially volatile situations and calm concerned clients using compassion and knowledge of program guidelines.
Reports to reporting parties if the initial report was assigned to a caseworker and the timeframe regarding a follow-up visit. If the report did not meet the guidelines for an investigation, informing the reporting party that the case was not assigned and explaining why it did not meet the guidelines.
Receives requests for information and other documentation requests from citizens, other counties, and units within the Department of Human Services or community agencies. Provides information or documentation following standard procedures through written correspondence, e-mail, or phone calls.
Performs Records Request for Child Welfare when possible by downloading all information and records on reported cases when requested by validated sources. Reviews information and edits information that is not to be provided based on strict confidentiality guidelines and forwards to the requesting individual.
Performs additional support work, including: SIDMODS.
Enters information into a computer terminal or otherwise prepares, routine and non routine reports utilizing a variety of software; receives, sorts, and summarizes material for the preparation of reports; prepares work reports; relays and interprets administrative decisions, policies and instructions.
Serves as a liaison and/or member of various committees/teams and collaborates, persuades, presents reports to and negotiates/networks with others outside own work area to coordinate efforts and maintain cooperative and efficient relations; attends and makes presentations at community forums and task force meetings.

Maintains and upgrades professional knowledge, skills, and development by attending seminars and training programs and reading trade and professional journals and publications; makes presentations at workshops.
Follows up on inquiries from various agencies/groups regarding department programs and services.

Education and

Bachelor''s degree from an accredited four year college or university in one of the behavioral science field; and,
One to two years of progressively responsible related experience; or,
Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; use hand to finger, handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; speak and hear; bend body downward and forward by bending legs and spine; and occasionally push, pull, and/or lift up to 20 pounds.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a normal office environment with little exposure to outdoor temperatures or dirt and dust. When conducting home visits, the incumbent is exposed to contagious diseases, noxious odors, and unsanitary conditions. The incumbent is exposed to potentially violent persons when performing the essential functions of the position.
The incumbent-s working conditions are typically moderately quite to very loud, depending on the work location.
Working time may require irregular hours and on-call status.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
