Position Summary
Carry out the various duties related to transforming text and pictures into finished pages and then producing printing plates of these pages.
Responsibilities:
Produce press ready, color accurate materials using graphic software. Functions include building, manipulating and checking electronic files according to job specifications
Review job specifications to develop a full comprehension and thorough understanding of requirements and ensures all files contain correct elements needed for production of final deliverables, including TIFF and EPS files and all fonts
Utilize Esko ArtPro and Adobe Photoshop software using Mac OS to build, manipulate and implement corrections where necessary packaging graphics to required specifications
Utilize content management tools for retrieving and referencing images and files
Image digital litho printing plates and manufacture Flexo coating plates for offset presses
Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, security procedures and instructions. Follow all Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) pertaining to area of responsibility
Performs all duties according to established safety policy
Review and maintain updates on departmental software
Review, update and implement processes and procedures as necessary to maintain production standards
Train department personnel on proper processes and procedures.
Monitor, and maintain inventory of plates and processing supplies
Coordinate with Vendors for service or installation on equipment and software
Maintain, repair and troubleshoot equipment in department
Willing to work flexible hours as necessary
Be able to cover other positions in department for vacations or absenteeism
Ensures housekeeping rules are observed in department
Other duties as assigned by the Corporate Director of Print Management
Skills & Abilities:
Must be able to setup, operate and maintain all prepress equipment. Including: scanners, imagers, processors, plotters, Mac and Windows platforms and RIPs, hardware or software; Mac and Windows and Linux based platforms
Proficiency in AutoCAD systems for building or adjusting die layouts
Must be proficient in all desktop publishing, image editing and word processing applications, computer operating systems and network configurations
Knowledge of different file types (JPEG, EPS, TIFF, GIF, PNG, BMP, PDF, etc.)
File processing is controlled via computer interface and requires the ability to navigate through multiple computer screens to quickly and efficiently solve problems. Computer software experience in a prepress environment is preferred. Familiar with page impositioning and working knowledge of PDF format and Acrobat software
Good understanding of the conversion issues when using these apps across Mac and Windows platforms
Strong knowledge of File Resolution, Plate Line Screen and Half-tones Experience with Offset Folding Carton preferred
Good understanding on how to troubleshoot problem files
Sound knowledge of color theory & prepress workflows
Time management skills, operates effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Excellent project management skills, highly organized and ability to multitask effectively.
Must be quality oriented to ensure product meets customer specifications
Proven team player with good interpersonal skills
Must be able to explain complex printing processes and prepress issues in everyday language
Good, verbal and written communication
Operates effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Excellent attendance record
Good mechanical aptitude, including good understanding of measurements
Be tactful and courteous in interactions with other people
Solid background in computers and electronics
Good understanding of mathematics in order to operate software programs that control computerized prepress machines.

Calm and able to adapt easily to the pressures of meeting deadlines as well as using new software and operating new equipment
Experience:
High School Diploma, Bachelors degree in graphic arts or related field preferred
A certificate or diploma in Electronic Prepress Operations or Printing Prepress Technology or an alternative is an associate's degree in Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology or Printing and Prepress Technology

years experience as a Mac Prepress Operator in a prepress environment

Physical Requirements:
The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs. The following activities are also required: reach (extending hands and arms in any direction), occasional standing, stooping, walking/balancing (moving about to accomplish tasks), lifting (raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position), grasping (applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm) and repetitive motion (substantial moving of arms, wrists, hands, and/or fingers) is required.
Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral and color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to differentiate between colors and may be required to complete a color test. Good color vision helps the employee find mistakes and be able to locate potential problems that may arise.
Additional hours above regular scheduled shift may be required to cover for absences or vacation days, along with meeting production needs.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
