This position is in the Harlan County Cooperative Extension Office in Harlan, KY. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP-Ed) programs under the supervision of the County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences and/or Area Extension Agent for Food and Nutrition, the person filling the position will be responsible for teaching limited resource individuals and families about food selection and preparation for an adequate diet. Other topics include food safety and planning food purchases within available funds to provide maximum nutritional value.
Regular Duties of Job:
Recruit youth, individuals and families to participate in the EFNEP (SNAP-Ed) Program.
Teach food selection, preparation, food safety, and planning food purchases on limited funds.
Recruit and support volunteer leaders for 4-H type nutrition related programs.
Recruit youth and attend special interest and camping programs and assist with presenting foods demonstrations and information at these programs.
Refer to county extension agents the names, needs and interest of potential 4-H members, leaders and potential adult participants in areas other than nutrition.
Keep and submit required records in including computer and web based reports promptly.
Attend all training conferences.
The SNAP-Ed Assistant will become knowledgeable of the philosophy, goals, objectives, and policies and procedures of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service. The SNAP-Ed Assistant will serve all clientele, ensuring that all youth and adults have an equal opportunity to participate in Extension programs regardless of race, color, age, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
The SNAP-Ed Assistant should have knowledge of community organizations and agencies; have the ability to plan, conduct, and evaluate educational events; possess oral and written communications skills as well as organizational and process skills. Employee must also have the ability to relate effectively with adults and youth.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
