Mayo Clinic Thoracic Diseases Research Unit and Departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Physiology & Biomedical Engineering have opportunities available for a postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Biology and Therapeutics of Lung Fibrosis.
Postdoctoral positions are immediately available in a newly funded program aimed at understanding the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis and developing new therapeutic approaches in this disease area. The work will be conducted in the laboratories of Drs. Andrew Limper, Edward Leof, and Daniel Tschumperlin. Projects will be focused on characterizing pathological fibroblasts from patients with lung fibrosis, screening for agents that synergistically antagonize fibrosis, delineating mechanisms controlling cell type-specific TGF-? signaling in the pathogenesis of lung fibrosis, and investigations of the mechanobiology of fibroblasts and extracellular matrix within the context of lung injury/repair and fibrosis.
All studies will be conducted within a multidisciplinary laboratory consortium featuring state-of-the-art facilities, fluorescence and atomic force microscopy, as well as access to outstanding research core resources. Successful candidate must have proficiency in basic techniques of biochemistry, cell and molecular biology. Experience in fluorescence microscopic analysis of tissues and cells, cell isolation and culture in 3D matrices, and for some projects whole animal studies in rodents will be required. Candidate will be expected to develop and execute independent research projects leading to peer-reviewed publications and must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Maximum consideration will be given to candidates with first author publications and the motivation and initiative to develop independent research careers.
A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. 800146; J2WRTP

Qualifications:
Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
