Overview:
Conducts the necessary tasks of the Health Information Management processes including but not limited to: record analysis, data abstraction and coding.

Qualifications:
Education and Training: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) preferred. Extensive experience in performing the tasks listed may be substituted for the education. Specialized training in an approved Health Information Management Program. Education to include specialized health care subjects, i.e.; medical science, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, CPT/HCPCS coding; ICD-9-CM coding preferred.

Experience: Previous ICD-9 coding experience preferred. Previous medical record experience for a minimum of one year required. Minimum of one year computer experience with various computer software applications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of ICD-9 coding
Knowledge of disease processes and medical terminology
Computer Skills to include multiple software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel
Prompt and accurate data entry and abstracting skills
Prioritization skills
Excellent communication skills
Skill to initiate appropriate decision making
Ability to work independently and accurately
Ability to communicate with professional staff, patients, families, and the public
Ability to work cooperatively with clinical staff including physicians
Ability to accept and utilize advice and constructive criticism
Ability to accept responsibility

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
