A training and developmental position leading to the position of first line supervisor in manufacturing or material control. Employee will assume responsibility for supervising a medium to large group of employees involved in plant production operations or Material Operations. Work is generally of a technical nature with the ability to make decisions within the limits of general standards and practices. Some direct guidance received from supervisor.
Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment.
Meets production schedule, cost goals and quality requirements.
Understands and consistently administers National and Local Agreements; participates in local labor relations activities.
Implements divisional and corporate policies.
Ensures employees perform job responsibilities and empowers them to continuously improve their work by managing and eliminating constraints.
Reduces waste by identifying and improving value-added tasks and eliminating non-value added tasks.
Implements safety and good housekeeping standards.
Builds and maintains good working relationships with employees, union and management.
Keeps management informed of developments as they occur
Maintains corporate and unit management control systems.
Maintains department records.
Qualifications
Basic Required
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedure
Knowledge of basic math
High level oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of basic technology of area where assigned
Knowledge of scheduling and other management systems
High level analytical ability where problems are complex
High level interpersonal skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization, motivate employees and elicit work output
Knowledge of quality control procedures
Knowledge of material control procedures
Basic Preferred
High school graduate or equivalent experience, plus additional training such as that acquired in the first one or two years of technical or business school
Completion of recommended Corporate training programs
Experience supervising employees in a union environment preferred
Experience supervising employees in a manufacturing environment
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
