Exelis, Inc. is the prime operation and maintenance contractor for NASA at the White Sands Complex (WSC) near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Operating here are two functionally identical satellite ground terminals: the White Sands Ground Terminal Upgrade, and the Second TDRSS Ground Terminal. A third terminal located in Guam is also operated and supported by the WSC. These three terminals ensure uninterrupted communications between various ground stations, NASA's orbiting fleet of Tracking and Data Relay satellites, customer spacecraft, and the computer systems that support such spacecraft. The WSC also serves as an interface for distributing satellite data to control centers and scientists who then use the daily influx of data to expand our ever growing knowledge of the Earth and the universe.
The successful candidate for this position will serve as a member of the WSC Integration Engineering Group.
The successful candidate will plan, schedule and perform assigned work orders in accordance with engineering documents and local operating procedures; coordinate with cognizant engineer to resolve issues to ensure assigned projects are completed on schedule; assist in the testing of modifications and upgrade to the TDRSS ground station system; provide current task status and assist other integration members as required for large or time critical installations. Travel to Guam or other sites to support installation and modification efforts. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Position Scope: Implementation Field Engineer is responsible for providing hardware integration and installation expertise in the real-time operational environment of a large satellite tracking station. WSC Implementation Team member must have experience with installations, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment and connectors. Specifically, work involves reading design plans, fabrication of design, testing and documentation of results per specified standards and use of a variety of tools including hand tools, power tools, and measuring/testing instruments. In general, the work of the WSC Implementation Team member requires physical dexterity, mechanical ability, and strong problem solving and communication skills. 0
Years w/ BS Computer Science, Information Systems or related field; Associate's degree and 2 years of related experience or in lieu of formal education, 4 years of additional related experience is allowable.
Ability to work and communicate effectively with other contractors and/or teams.
Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office.
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
