Gerdau is seeking a Process Engineer / Improvement Facilitator for the mill in Knoxville, TN.


Basic Function:
The objective of the Improvement Facilitator is to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of all improvement aspects within their area of responsibility. This is accomplished through the application of the available tools provided through GBS (Gerdau Business Systems) and improvement principles in conjunction with the use of technical and engineering principles. The Improvement Facilitator will coordinate these activities directly with the appropriate Rolling Mill Superintendent, Routine Facilitator, and employees within his/her area of responsibility.

Responsibilities include:
Identify opportunities for improvement within his/her area of responsibility and approve standards developed from these efforts
Responsible for developing and implementing activities that support the annual action plan specifically as they relate to improvement projects
Design or develop new or alterations to existing structures, systems, and equipment
Provide timely and accurate cost estimates on proposed improvement efforts
Support and participate in CAPEX projects
Develop and coach employees' capabilities and knowledge in the application of QIS methodology and participate as required in QIS events
Participate and contribute to the achievement of department goals including goal setting
Serve as a resource to facilitate the vertical and horizontal help chain
Responsible for data entry into GMR and/or other systems utilized for tracking goals and projects
Assist with safety related activities within the area
Travel approximately 10 - 20%

The incumbent must perform the above-mentioned duties and responsibilities in accordance with all Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations. Employees must also report any situation which may have a detrimental impact to human health or the environment to their immediate supervisor.

Requirements include:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred), but will consider Materials Science, Industrial or Business Administration (coupled w/steel or aluminum industry experience)
2 - 10 years' experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, preferably in steel, however we will consider experience in Aluminum or Automotive industries.
Industrial maintenance experience desired.
Experienced with 5S, 6 Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
Strong hydraulics experience required.
Previous supervisory experience.
CAPEX involvement desired.
Strong computer and analytical skills: Must have good excellent knowledge of MS - Office tools, including pivot table and v-lookup skills. SAP experience is a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to effectively train and get the buy-in of employees at multiple levels.
