As the Director of Surgical Services you will help direct a department with access to the latest technology, such as the minimally invasive da Vinci surgical technology and support a wide range of surgical specialties including general surgery, orthopedic surgery, urological surgery, gynecological surgery, pediatric surgery, cardiovascular/thoracic surgery, bariatric surgery, neurosurgery, oral/maxillofacial surgery, and plastic reconstructive surgery.
Position Summary
Under the general direction of the CNO and in collaboration with the Senior Director of Nursing, the Nursing Director has primary oversight of the departments and Nursing Supervisors with responsibilities including, but not limited to, human resource management, quality management, budget development, facilitation of inter/intra-departmental and medical staff communication, and the maintenance and monitoring of regulatory standards of care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintains financial accountability for assigned departments; functions within established budget in collaboration with Nursing Supervisor
Examines alternative methods of providing required services in order to reduce departmental supply and personnel costs in collaboration with Lead Supervisor
Effectively uses financial information for strategic and operational decision making. Is responsible for annual budgets for capital equipment, personnel, supplies, and other departmental costs in collaboration with Lead Supervisor
Directs and participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Quality Assessment and Quality Improvement activities
Works collaboratively with Service Line Directors to grow clinical programs within department
In collaboration with Floor Supervisor, identifies problems, proposes solutions, and reviews the finding of monitoring and evaluation activities, utilizing the interactive planning process with service area personnel
Facilitates positive physician relations by engaging physicians on a periodic basis and responding to suggestions for improvement, investigating thoroughly all concerns expressed by physicians, and working proactively with physician groups for new program development when applicable
Works collaboratively with Senior Director of Nursing to improve nursing competencies and nursing sensitive indicators
Encourages and uses positive human resource practices throughout the department, including: mentoring, using performance management techniques - setting objectives, providing feedback, evaluating results, defining roles and responsibilities with direct reports, training and developing staff, using coaching/counseling to improve or sustain performance and making effective hiring, promotion, transfer, disciplinary, and termination decision
Effectively directs his/her group through change management processes and facilitates groups to achieve desired results reflecting the group's ideas and input

Education, Experience and Licensure/Certification Requirements

Requirements are representative of the minimum level of knowledge, skills and/or abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position

Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
Current MT RN licensure (or ability to acquire same)
Current BLS certification
Minimum of seven years clinical nursing experience in clinical area, Surgical experience preferred
Minimum of four years in clinical leadership role
Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team
Experience in understanding and usage of computers, including the Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to learn applications relevant to the position
