Position Description:
Manages all functions and operations of the Melting Department which includes Secondary Refining, Refractory, Casting and the Scrap Yard in harmony with other plant departments in a safe and efficient manner to ensure accomplishment of company objectives, budget goals, legal requirements and production goals, while providing a safe and rewarding environment.

Responsibilities:
Develops safe and effective standards of workman ship; provides training and motivation to ensure personal safety in compliance with federal, state and company guidelines.
Oversees the selection, development and motivation of personnel for efficient operation of each department.
Develops and motivate melting/casting/yard personnel to (1) ensure a high level of supervisory and technical expertise; and (b) ensure the best use of individual and group capabilities.
Coordinates inventory control and timely receipt and disbursement of scrap steel refractory and other raw materials to and from storage locations to meet production requirements.
Coordinates with plant maintenance, preventive maintenance programs to insure prompt and effective diagnosis of equipment failures to minimize downtime and costly work stoppages, as well as maintaining buildings, rail lines, fence lines, etc. in the yard.
Establishes and implements practical and innovative processes by keeping abreast of the State of the Art practices, processes and products to assure a quality product from the electric furnaces, secondary refining and refractory.
Provides for the effective, ongoing administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement to prevent labor problems and resolve existing conflicts and grievances to promote a positive labor climate.
Directs the development of melting/casting/yard plans and operating budgets, administers approved plans and budgets, initiates corrective actions to assure achievement of plans and control costs.
Directs the preparation and coordination of work schedules to assure optimum utilization of personnel.
Ensure completion and distribution of all necessary reports for verification of transportation costs demurrage charges, regulations of the compliance with contractual obligations.

Qualifications:
B.S. Degree, preferably in Metallurgy or Engineering.

years of management experience supervising others in Melting or Casting Operations (preferably both) within the steel industry.
Excellent safety knowledge and a disposition and expectation of others to observe safe work practices and behaviors.
Computer skills and knowledge to assist with use of GMR software.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Prior experience working in a union environment interpreting, applying, and enforcing the collective bargaining agreement.
