Gerdau is currently seeking an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic for its Petersburg, VA facility.
Must be able to work rotating 12 hour shifts

Description of Position:
The primary job function of the Maintenance Mechanic is to troubleshoot and repair all mechanical and fluid power systems in the MPS Mill. Such equipment includes, but is not limited to: high and low pressure hydraulics, major gearboxes, mobile equipment, cranes and other related mill equipment.

Responsibilities:
Maintains, repairs and troubleshoots machinery, hydraulic systems, conveyor systems and other MPS Mill equipment
Visually inspects and diagnosis the causes of equipment malfunctions
Performs data entry into SAP
Maintains equipment history
Arranges special tools, parts and drawings needed for repair jobs
Dismantles, assembles and installs machinery and/or components
Assists in development of preventive maintenance programs
Maintain good working knowledge of MPS Mill procedures

Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent
Ability to work a 12 hour rotating shift schedule, which includes days, nights, weekends and holidays. Will also need to be able to work overtime on short notice.
At least 3 years of industrial and preventative maintenance in a manufacturing / similar environment is required
Must pass WorkKeys Assessment
Acute safety awareness
Welding experience (ARC and MIG)
Good mechanical ability, reasoning and problem solving skills
Computer literacy in a Windows based environment
Working knowledge of :
electrical control circuits
mechanical, fluid power, oxygen, gas and water systems (strong background in electro hydraulic & general hydraulic troubleshooting background preferred but not required).
welding symbols
setting clearances on bearings , pressure pumps and water flow
alignment , alignment tolerances (laser, dial indicator, caliper and feeler gauges
Ability to:
take measurements, fabricate and install repair assemblies
read and interpret mechanical drawings
plan work and communicate with the planners
Complete machine setup and weld with:
stick (6010 and 7018) in all positions and certify in all positions
the tig process and certify in 6G position
Knowledge of different welding gases
Mobile equipment and utilities maintenance experience preferred
Experience with electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics and lubrication preferred
Job setup skills (safety, equipment, tools and estimated time)
Strong work ethic
Excellent communication skills - written and verbal
Stable work history

Physical Requirements:
Pass required physical and drug screen.
Ability to use vibration and hand tools, and to operate foot pedals with both feet.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders, reach, squat, balance, bend from trunk, walk up inclines, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, bend.
Ability to repetitively lift objects of various dimensions and weights up to 55 pounds.
Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching and tolerate prolonged standing and walking in various climates
Normal depth perception, vision and ability to distinguish color.
Must be able to perform duties in a safe manner and wear all required safety equipment.
