Summary
To create/improve databases of critical co-op information for use by NRECA analysts to promote the interests of rural electric co-ops and their communities. Use internal and external sources of co-op data to facilitate updating basic co-op datasets such as how many NRECA members have ''flat-rate'' charges and fuel-adjustment clauses; what their fuel mix and how many are subject to customer choice in their state. Use reports comparing cooperatives to the rest of the utility industry on such measures as customer density, revenue density and plant per customer. Study the demographics of the 42 million people served by NRECA members and compare those demographics with customers of other types of electric utilities.
Purpose and Mission
Survey of co-op websites (distribution and G&T;) for information on:
'flat-rates' or 'customer charges' on retail residential bills
fuel-adjustment clauses
fuel mix (% of power estimated to be coal, gas, nuclear, hydro, renewables)
retail wheeling/customer choice exposure
Statistical Comparisons Co-op to IOUs (Investor-Owned Utilities) and Municipal Utilities (last updated with 2009 data):
Customer Density - Consumers per Mile of Line
Revenue Density - Revenue per Mile of Line
Plant per Customer - Total Utility Plant per Customer Served
G&T; critical data:
Consolidate and improve accessibility of the G&T; Form 12 and FERC Form 1 data - the data is currently stored in a multitude of spreadsheets and divided between RUS and nonRUS borrowers; consolidating all the data would allow us to quickly measure G&T; annual spending for plant and transmission; total depreciation and remaining investment in coal plants; capital costs; power purchases and sales (would facilitate an update to the G&T; Profiles book)
