The University of Virginia School of Law seeks an Assistant Dean for Student Affairs to lead and manage a broad portfolio of responsibilities that support the personal and academic needs of an engaged student community. The Assistant Dean will help to foster a strong and active student culture rich in intellectual and social activities; advise and work with student organizations on a wide range of programs and initiatives; counsel students who are confronting problems related to their academic experience (either directly or through referrals for professional assistance); assess and implement disability accommodations; coordinate with the Law School and University leadership team on general student issues and concerns; and assist in student recruitment, orientation planning, commencement planning, and alumni outreach. The Assistant Dean reports to the Vice Dean and works closely with other assistant deans in academic and career services.
Qualifications: Graduate degree required; J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school strongly preferred. At least five years of experience in higher education in a student services function-or an equivalent level of professional experience-is strongly preferred. The candidate must possess excellent organizational and planning skills; demonstrate empathy and sound judgment; be able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a service-oriented environment; manage stressful and emotional situations in a way that leads to thoughtful and institutionally-aligned responses, be able to maintain confidentiality in connection with sensitive matters; and bring exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to a team-oriented and collegial environment.
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
