Role purpose:
- This position is responsible for providing strategic and tactical support for garden bean, snap pea, and shell pea global breeding projects. This is a full-time assignment and reports directly to the North America Garden Bean Breeder. The main activities of this position relate to facilitating and participating in the breeding process for bean and pea projects by 1) managing processes and operations, 2) data collection and analysis/summarization, 3) developing, optimizing and implementing breeding designs and processes globally, and 4) variety trial setup and evaluation including internal and external customer interaction.
Accountabilities:
- Manage the flow of program material through early and late development.
-Develop yearly experiment and trial plan and communicate scheduling with BA team, Global breeding, PEA, and external suppliers.
-Work with BA to maintain budget and optimization and quality of processes.
- Assist in the evaluation of new experimental lines.
-Manage directly and/or review/oversee data collection throughout the season
-Perform independent evaluation and data collection.
-Evaluate and implement new technologies and protocols to improve genetic gain efficiency.
-Perform environmental monitoring and environment and field surveys in order to validate the overall value of trials and trial sites.
- Manage and maintain program data
-Create, map, and manage trial records in Syngenta breeding databases
-Manage the Syngenta databases for seed inventory
-Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and perform quantitative statistical analysis using common statistical packages
-Ensure data integrity in Syngenta breeding databases
-Participate in project management activities via adopting project management practices and utilizing appropriate Syngenta databases
- Develop and maintain excellent internal and external customer relationships
-Maintain strong relationships with internal and external personnel.
-Training and development of all personnel related to Legume R&D, Supply, and Business.
-Participate in team-wide technical activities together with other Breeders, Assistant Breeders, and Technician in the Global Bean and Pea R&D Team aimed at improving R&D practices.
- Maintain an active skill development program in line with Syngenta R&D skill development and plans and practices
- Participate with Breeder, Trial Officer, Supply Chain, and Sales & Marketing in setting breeding and team strategies.
Knowledge, Skills &
Experience:
Critical knowledge::
- BA required
- MS preferred
- Knowledge of plant breeding, plant biology, statistics and agriculture.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the whole plant
Critical
Experience:
- With BA 5-8 years related experience
- With MS 3-5 years related experience
- Supervisory experience preferred

Additional Information:
- National travel of 10-20% required for summer and winter trial evaluations and meeting attendance throughout the year. Most trips are 1 week. Occasional international travel possible.
