This position is responsible for field service support of our Caterpillar Marine Engines and Diesel / Electric Power
Generation product line. Duties will include the maintenance and troubleshooting of engine and electrical related
systems, start-up of engines / generators and coordination with marine gears and /or switchgear systems.

Major Areas of Accountability:
Provide customer support for marine power engines through technical evaluations of specific application,
troubleshooting, and problem solving.
Repair and maintain reciprocal engine based marine power systems throughout primary shipyards along the
Gulf coast within our territory.
Provide guidance, assistance, and training to service technicians and customers as requested.
Explain and defend warranty decisions; generate and communicate service bulletins to both Customers and
Engineering.
Communicate cost, service and reliability issues from Field to Engineering with intent of convincing
appropriate departments for cost reduction and design improvements
Write full reports on findings from field service events, with clear, concise information.
Communicate daily clear comprehensive field reports regarding assigned units.
Represent the Power Systems group in the field.
Maintain service manuals
Job Requirements
Required Skills:
Experience with Diesel Engines, Electrical Switchgear, Diesel/Electric Systems related components.
Good working knowledge of marine engine components, proper alignment techniques, marine gear
components, power electronics, electronic controls, and fuel systems.
Caterpillar Marine PAR Certification is preferred but not required.
Excellent at managing Customer relationships
High level of responsiveness, and a strong proactive attitude to problem solving
Ability and motivation to learn quickly.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desire and aptitude to perform hands-on work.
Willing to locate regionally
Field Service Experience in a fast pace environment.

Use of hands and fingers to operate telephone(s) and computer(s) and specialized tools

Communication with internal and external customers, generally oral and written

Ability to travel to job-sites (may be out of town)

Movement in and around the job-site

Machines/Tools Used on the Job:

o Various hand tools, specialized meters and diagnostic tools.

o Cellular Telephone

o Personal Computer, Microsoft Office Suite, Email, and Peripherals

o Comprehension of Caterpillar ET and other software tools

o Copy Machine

o Fax Machine

o Company Service Vehicle

Training/Skills Required:
o High School Diploma or G.E.D.
o Two (2) years of Marine Engine field experience or accepted alternate
o Technical Degree or Certification a plus
o Microsoft Office Software proficiency
o Able to read electrical schematics and equipment mechanical drawingsEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
