The Preteen/Teen Camp Counselor
position
is a temporary/seasonal position with the Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation. Maximum hours per week is 35; Monday - Friday between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm. The position is under the general supervision of the Recreation
manager
.
Examples of Duties:
_EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:_
Leads group of campers ages 10-16 through daily field trip activities that may include: hiking, swimming, canoeing, high ropes course, tubing, zip-lining, kayaking, fishing, etc.
Counselors are required to take daily attendance, maintain daily attendance records, complete accident and incident reports when necessary and inform their
supervisor
of any issues or concerns that may require immediate attention.
Responsible for transporting campers using a County owned 12-passenger van to and from offsite camp destinations.
Observes and enforces all rules and regulations established for DEAPR-Recreation Division Summer Camps.
Administers first aid according to prescribed procedures, and notifies emergency medical personnel when necessary.
Actively ensures the safety of all campers at all times.
Supervises and escorts campers during camp activities.
Instructs and interacts with campers during all activities.
Monitors and ensures appropriate camper behavior and reports problems to Camp Coordinators.
Works closely, cooperatively and amicably with all staff members.
Communicates in a positive manner with reinforced feedback to participants.

Qualifications:
_TYPICAL
Qualifications:_ Must be 25 years or older.
Must have an understanding of the teenage population and behavior.
Must have/obtain American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR Certification.
Prefer one year prior camp experience.
Exhibits dependability, punctuality, patience, teamwork, self control and enthusiasm
Possesses good leadership abilities and responsibility.
Demonstrates appropriate behavior at all times.
Has the ability to work with minimal supervision.
