Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer I is an entry level position that plans, schedules, conducts and/or coordinates broader phases of
engineering
work on assigned parts of major projects, or total activities associated with smaller modification projects as assigned. These assignments are designed to develop professional work knowledge and ability.
Required Skills
This position requires frequent standing and sitting; and occasional walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crawling, pushing, pulling and lifting up to 50 pounds. This position requires use of keyboard/
computer
. Boiler wall inspection is performed on a floating scaffolding suspended at heights up to 250 feet. The incumbent is also occasionally required to work in confined areas. This position requires good finger dexterity, and good hearing and vision. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to extreme heat and cold, dirt, fumes, chemicals, vibration, and noise. Tools/equipment used include floating pick scaffolding, vibration testing equipment, velocity measuring probes, electronic thickness testers, slag hammer, computer equipment, and surveying equipment. The incumbent must be able to analyze data and reports, conduct research, implement recommendations, coordinate/direct projects, develop plans, present information to others, and work under pressure to complete assignments. This position must be respirator qualified.
Required Experience
Incumbent should have a Bachelor s degree from and EAC/ABET accredited mechanical engineering program. An EIT or FE certification is preferred. Technical knowledge of mechanical engineering is required along with good oral and written communication skills. Must be proficient with personal computers. Travel is required.
